Half-way around the World and back againgraphic

In order, I am travelling through the following places.

California, USA

We'll be spending a few weeks here. We start in San Francisco and will make our way down to Los Angeles. We are hopefully going to visit one of the many national parks, such as Yosemite, and do a bit of trekking through the beautiful scenery.

Fiji

Arriving at Fiji's international airport in Nadi, we will be spending a couple of weeks in this remote paradise. This will be our holiday, chilling out on the beach for most of it. There are some interesting features in Fiji which we will hopefully visit. A natural water-slide has formed in the rocks on one of the smaller islands, although it is not for the faint hearted! "A bruise or two is unavoidable", says the Lonely Planet. Fiji also has the 180 degree meridian line cutting straight through it - exactly half-way around the World from the 0 degree meridian line which passes through Greenwich in London.

New Zealand

The highlight of the trip; a few months trekking around the stunning country of New Zealand. We've got an A-B route here, getting from Auckland in the north island, to Christchurch in the south in time for Christmas. We want to spend as much time as possible in the national parks, enjoying nature and the great outdoors. Also saves on hostel expenses. There is a lot to do in New Zealand, much of which we won't be able to do this time; but there's no harm in a bit of whale watching from time-to-time.

Australia

The hardest part of the trip, where I have to leave the other three and go my own route home. We'll arrive in Sydney for the new year celebrations and spend a week and a bit in the city itself, possibly venturing out for a day or two. My three friends will then leave me (or I leave them, depending on who tells the story) and they head north to Darwin. I make my way from the sunny summer of Sydney to...

New York, USA

...the cold winter of New England. Flying into New York city, I will spend a few days here, time to relax, think and start to plan what I'm going to do when I get home.
